Amanda was sitting there watching TV when she heard the sound of her grandmother Gloria's heels on the wooden floor getting closer. She knew what her grandmother wanted before she had even entered the room. What she wanted was Amanda's body, and Amanda knew there was little she could do to stop her grandmother from swapping their bodies.
"Oh, Amanda!" shouted her grandmother, who appeared in the doorway.
"No, Grandma! Please, not again! Please!" begged Amanda.
But as her grandmother looked into her eyes, she started speaking in that strange language, and Amanda felt her body start to shake uncontrollably.
Amanda's body lay slumped on the sofa while her grandmother's body lay on the floor. The room was silent until Amanda's body awoke, gasping for air and sitting upright on the sofa. At the same time, her grandmother's body staggered to its feet.
"Grandma, why do you keep doing this to me?" said Amanda from her grandmother's body as she rubbed her head.
"I think you know why, my darling. Look at me," said Gloria as she felt her granddaughter's soft skin and inspected her beautiful hair.
Amanda felt unwell as she sat in a chair. She could feel her grandma's aches and pains and watched in horror as her grandmother continued to admire her body.
This was maybe the fifth time she had done this to her. Each time, the swap had lasted longer and longer, the first being a couple of hours and the last being four days.
But what could Amanda do except let her grandmother go out into the world in her body and do whatever she wanted?
It had been nearly a week, and Amanda had not seen her own body since the day her grandmother stole it from her. She was out doing God knows what while Amanda was trapped in her grandmother's old body, living with the effects of old age.
She was frightened every moment of her imprisonment in her grandmother's body. She had no other family to turn to, just a grandmother with the power to swap bodies with her granddaughter.
She had no idea what a normal life was as she looked at her reflection in the mirror, a reflection she saw more often than her own.
Even when she swapped back, she would have to deal with her grandmother's reckless behaviour in her body and live with the fear of when Gloria might return to swap again.
But then, suddenly, Amanda's body started to shake. They were swapping back!
The swap itself was painful, but when it stopped, Amanda found herself back in her own body in a dark room.
She was not alone as she realised she was in bed with two woman and a man, She snuck out of bed and returned home. Her grandmother had already left and was nowhere to be seen. All she could do was go upstairs and shower, hoping that her grandmother would never use that ancient magic to swap bodies with her again. But she had a feeling that Gloria was not finished with using her body.
