The Greatest Birthday Gift

John lowered himself into the nice, hot bubble bath he had drawn for himself. He could not believe it as he felt the hot water against his borrowed skin. He had not felt anything like that for years, since his accident had left him paralysed from the neck down. But his friend Laura had offered him a chance to feel again. For his birthday, she had agreed to allow him to swap bodies with her for 48 hours. She was a truly great friend.

Swapping bodies was strange. It was like he was asleep while awake, which he knew was impossible, but it was the only way to describe it. Being in her body was amazing. Being able to move freely, walk, run and feel things was incredible. Laura was also feeling the difference now that she was in John's body, but she was happy to do this despite feeling very odd.

The bath felt amazing, but he could not help it. He had to feel his new curves and examine his new equipment it was only natural to be a little curious.

Laura had told him to do whatever he wanted while in her body, but there was so much he hadn't done for years that he wanted to try. However, he only had 48 hours, so he decided to finish up in the bath and then go out and enjoy himself.

John could not believe how good it felt as his borrowed toes curled as pleasure took over his body he had not felt pleasure like that in a very long time he got out of the bath and dried himself off and got dressed. He opened the door and went out into the big, wide world alone for the first time since before his accident. He knew what he wanted to do first: ride a bike again.

John did everything he could think of. He first ate at his favourite restaurant. He loved being able to eat a meal independently. Afterwards, he found a place where he could rent a bike. He cycled through the park, the wind hitting his face. He could go wherever he liked.

His first day was so much fun. Although he felt tired and his legs ached, he didn't want to stop. He rested for an hour, and then he got Laura's body all dressed up and went to a nightclub. He had not been a dancer before the accident, but now, as he danced, he could not understand why. As he danced his eyes met with a very beautiful woman and soon they were dancing together.

The next morning his last day he looked over but the woman from last night has already What an amazing night that had been! What an experience, he thought as he jumped into the shower and put on some running gear. Despite everything he had done while in Laura's body yesterday, he still felt full of energy as he ran along the river. It was such a lovely morning.

After that, he grabbed a bikini from Laura's closet and hit the beach. It was so nice walking along the sandy beach, the waves crashing around him and hitting his feet. He walked for a long time before noticing a group of people playing beach volleyball. He watched for a while until one of the women asked if he wanted to join. He did and played for an hour before deciding to head back home the long way.

John stood at the end of the street where Laura's home was. He was going to shower, change and then head back to his place. He bet Laura was looking forward to swapping back. He still could not believe this was all real. He had had such fun in her body, but before he went back home or to see Laura, he wanted to go back to where his life had changed, the place where he had crashed his car and ended up paralysed.

He stood on the corner of the road, watching cars go by, wondering how his life would have been if he had not crashed that day. After reflecting on what he could remember about that day the rain, the wind, that terrible storm, and how he had swerved to avoid a falling tree he wondered why he had driven in such weather. He then returned to Laura's, showered, changed and headed back to swap bodies.

A part of him wished he could stay forever as Laura. He could be happy living her life, but he could not imprison her in his body forever. It would have been so ungrateful.

Walking into the room, he saw his body lying in bed. He smiled at Laura, who smiled back. It had been the best two days of his life since the crash, and it had all been down to an amazingly kind woman.

"Are you ready to swap back?" said Laura as she looked up at him, tears forming in her eyes.

"Just give me a moment!" said John, wiping away his tears.

"Thank you so much for these two days. You don't know how much they have meant to me."

They swapped back, and Laura hugged John, who was now back in his own body he instantly felt the different he felt trapped again.

"I just wish they didn't have to end," said John.

Laura smiled.

"Well, you've got another birthday next year, haven't you?"

John smiled at her, and they sat together for a while. John told Laura what he had done during his two days in her body, although he left out some details. He couldn't wait until next year to swap with Laura again.
