Things have been looking up for Barbara. It's been 8 months since the swap and she no longer felt like she was living someone elses life. Her life tended to follow the same routine. Her and her husband would have some unsatisfying sex before he went to work, and the Arthur would sneak over and finish the job, then he would do the washing and make the dinner before her husband got home. It was a simple life but she learned to make it her own. Her and Arthur had been sneaking around for a couple months now. Things where going well but she could tell he wanted more, to be a real couple. But Barbara had just gotten comfortable in her new life, she wasn't ready to add a messy divorce to the mix. She liked things as the were, uncomplicated. That was until today. She had spent all morning getting sick. She felt hungover but that couldn't be right, she only had one glass of wine with dinner. She began to wonder if she caught a bug until she realised something. She remembered something from health class in school, something about how in the early stages of pregnancy the mother can get morning sickness. How did she not see it before, she's a week late on her period she should have realised sooner. She should have been more careful, but to be honest she didn't think she'd actually be able to get pregnant at this age. She was now cursing herself for not paying more attention in health class.
First things first, she needed to get a pregnancy test to confirm. She went to the local pharmacy to buy one. There where a couple of teenagers not much younger than she was before the swap hanging outside the pharmacy. "MILF" one shouted at her as she went inside. She smiled at this, she found it kind of flattering to still be considered attractive at her age. When she asked for a pregnancy test at the till she felt like a minor trying to buy booze with a fake id. But the transaction went without a hitch. She hurried home and beelined straight for the bathroom. She did the test and anxiously waited on the results. She looked at the stick with her fingers crossed. It was positive. She put her head in her hands, she was pregnant and she had no idea which one of her lovers was the father.
She decided there was only one thing to do. Talk to someone that actually knew what it was like to have a baby. "How could you cheat on dad?" her son said, "he loves you." "Well I don't love him." Barbara said coldly, "not like that. Sex is the one good thing about this life and your father kept coming up short." "There's more to relationships than sex you know" Josh said "like your wedding vows for example." "You mean YOUR wedding vows" Barbara said, "you where the one that decided to marry him, then you just dumped your life on me and all the baggage that came with it. But I wasn't the one that walked down that altar. That was all you until you stole my life." "Alright, alright. Fair enough." Josh said raising his hands apologetically, "arguing isn't going to get us anywhere." "So... what should I do?" Barbara asked. "You're going to have to pick one of them, otherwise you'll lose them both. And I can tell you from experience, going through pregnancy and raising a child alone is not easy. Thats why I married dad, he wasn't your father but he stepped up." Josh said. This made Barbara feel guilty, she hadn't thought of it like that. What was she going to do?
