Working Through It (Part 9) Finale
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 8

Stanley managed to discreetly steal the security pass from the lab's "psychologist." After falsely requesting a few days of isolation to see if his symptoms improved naturally, he made his move. He got a rough idea of the layout of the facility from before, so when the coast was clear he began scouting for new bodies. His first stop was a biracial woman roughly 30 years old. She was attractive, had great muscle tone, but her eyebrows were a bit bushy for his liking. Not a bad option, but Stanley decided to keep looking.

Stanley spent all day avoiding lab personnel just to catch a glimpse at a dozen possible hosts for his consciousness. None of them were great options. Remembering the "psychologist's" words, the body had to be subconsciously compatible. It had to be someone he could see himself being, not just borrowing. The next day, he came across a petite, young Asian woman. She was well-proportioned, had a nice face with clear skin, and was already scheduled for a brain transplant the next day. Perfect! He quickly input his own name in the system in place of the intended recipient and returned to his room.

When Stanley woke up the following morning, he sharply inhaled again just as he had the first two times. He quickly saw that he was surrounded by strangers, with two doctors and a large family standing over him. "Did... did it work?" he asked, out of breath.

"Yes, the operation was a complete success," one of the doctors answered. "You're perfectly safe and healthy." The doctors did not seem angry with him, so they must not have noticed that he tampered with the system. Clearly this was the family of the original intended recipient, and they were also unaware. He just had to play along and pretend to be someone else long enough to get away. Then he was home free.
