The Resurrection Part 1

It had been a rough several months. I had moved in with my girlfriends best friend, Stephanie, since the accident. My longtime girlfriend Sarah was riding her bike to work when a car ran a red light and hit her, she didn’t make it.

Sarah’s family was welcoming at first but eventually both Stephanie and I reminded them too much of their daughter and it became too painful for them. So they asked us to give them some space - with nowhere left to go for support we decided to support each other by moving in together, to grieve together. I tried to move on, I hit the bars, went to social gatherings, even tried dating apps but everything just felt empty - I missed Sarah. My desperation led to outlandish solutions, I found myself on more than one occasion scouring the web trying to find supernatural means to get back into contact with the deceased. Before I knew it a manila folder filled with papers on rituals and spells sat beside my computer. It was always a novelty for me more than anything else - probably to make myself feel like I was trying.

One wine and tear filled evening with Stephanie we decided to read entries from Sarah’s diary. After one particularly emotional entry she offhandedly said “I’d do anything to get Sarah back.”

I set the diary down and said “You know what Steph? It’s the middle of summer, tomorrow is supposed to be in the 90s - want to hit the beach in the morning? I think getting out in that type of environment would be good for us.”

“That actually sounds like a great idea. Let’s do it! I could use a tan.”

With that, Stephanie picked up the diary and carried it back to her room as we both headed for bed.

.......................................................................................................

Stephanie and I were sitting on the beach together, soaking in the sun.

“I wish Sarah could be here, it’s beautiful.” Steph said with a softer voice. “I’m going to go cool off in the ocean and lay down.”

Steph stood up and brushed the white sand off of her and walked into the water. Waist deep, she looked over her shoulder at me and smiled before turning back around to dive under a coming wave. She emerged from the water, walked back onto the beach and laid down on the wet sand. She was close enough to the ocean that the water would crawl past where she laid but far enough away where the waterline was only an inch or two deep. The perfect distance to keep cool. Steph crossed her arms in front of her and rested her head.

The site of Steph coming out the water and bathing in the sun brought back memories… memories that I have been trying to move past. The scene spiraled me into a moment of weakness… “What do I have to lose?” I thought to myself. It’s not like anyone else is around to hear me recite what is probably nonsense.”

I intently stared at Steph while she lay with her eyes closed and pictured Sarah while reciting what sounded like gibberish.

Steph hadn’t moved, still sunbathing with her back slowly rising and falling as she breathed. Nothing but the ocean waves to measure how much time had passed. I estimated it had been several minutes, very tense several minutes.

I let out a sigh and mentally kicked myself. “Who or what am I kidding? That stuff doesn’t actually exist.” I took another glance at Steph’s rising and falling back and rotated my upper body around to reach into our beach bag behind me to grab some water.

I turned back around with my hydroflask to see Steph propped up onto her left forearm looking down at her chest while she groped her right breast.

“What the?” I said to myself. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t hot. I got up and made my way over to her.

“Steph, I get that we’re close but I’m still a guy.” I said once I get within a couple feet of her.

“Huh? Steph?” She said as she turned her head up at me with clearly confused look.

My eyes widened.

“Sarah?” I asked seriously as I kneeled down quickly and grabbed her shoulders.

She still looked confused. She slowly worked her way up to where she was sitting on her knees and began to examine her body. She squeezed her breasts, ran both her hands up her thighs and around her backside to firmly squeeze her ass. She tugged the waistband of her swimsuit bottoms and took a deep inhale as she felt the fabric press against her groin while the back got pulled between her cheeks.

I grabbed her shoulders again and she looked at me startled “Sarah, it’s me - Jason, you’re boyfriend.”

She gave me a sideways look so I burst out in explanation: “Sarah, I can’t believe it worked. When you died I tried to move on but I just couldn’t. So I cast a soul resurrection spell to bring you back! The spell needed a host body to put your soul into and Stephanie said she would do anything to bring you back! So I cast the spell and now you’re back in Stephanie’s body!”

As I finished my explanation she began to smile at me. I gave her a hug and began to tear up, “I love you,” I whispered “it’s so good to have you back.”

She hugged me back - “It’s me my love. I’m back - we’re together again.”

“My love?” I thought to myself. Something seemed off about the way she said that... but she had been dead for almost 6 months and just got brought back… It didn’t matter, she was back now and that’s all that mattered.

(To be continued...)
